During its Q4 2025 earnings call, AMD CEO Dr. Lisa Su indicated that development of a semi-custom System-on-Chip (SoC) for the next-gen Xbox is 2027, a detail that strongly suggests a launch window for the console in that same year.

This announcement, reported by Tom’s Hardware and Tom’s Guide, builds on existing industry speculation. Rumors have pointed towards a 2027 release for the next Xbox for several months, though internal Microsoft documents revealed during the FTC trial regarding the Activision-Blizzard acquisition previously suggested a potential 2028 timeframe.

The core of this connection lies in the GPU technology. AMD is preparing to launch its next-generation RDNA 5-based GPU, and crucially, the company intends to utilize the same GPU chiplet design in both the desktop graphics cards and the next Xbox.
