AMD Unveils Krackan Point and Ryzen Z2 Extreme Processors for Mainstream Mobile and Portable Markets
AMD recently revealed its upcoming content at IFA 2024, including future GPU plans and the confirmation of two new processors: Krackan Point and Ryzen Z2 Extreme. These processors are set to target the mainstream mobile market and portable consoles, respectively.
Krackan Point: A Mainstream Mobile Processor
According to Jack Huynh, senior vice president and general manager of AMD’s computing and graphics group, Krackan Point is expected to target the mainstream consumer mobile market. This processor will feature 4 sets of Zen 5 architecture CPU cores + 4 sets of Zen 5C architecture CPU cores, paired with an 8-CU RDNA 3.5 GPU, as well as a 50 TOPS XDNA 2 architecture NPU Core.

Ryzen Z2 Extreme: A Portable Console Processor
The Ryzen Z2 Extreme processor is designed for portable consoles and is expected to be released in early 2025. While the specifications are not yet clear, it is likely to use a CPU based on the Zen 5 or Zen 5C architecture, with a GPU that could be RDNA 3.5 or RDNA 4.
AMD’s goal for the Ryzen Z2 Extreme is to provide over 3 hours of gameplay, a significant improvement from the current 45 minutes. This will likely be achieved through the use of artificial intelligence or other technologies to control power consumption and improve battery life.
Release Timeline
Both the Krackan Point and Ryzen Z2 Extreme processors are expected to be released in early 2025. AMD will likely provide full details and product lineup at CES 2025.
