American in Limbo: US Citizen Detained in Venezuela After Sneaking in Undocumented
US Citizen and Navy Soldier Detained in Venezuela
Venezuelan prosecutor Tarek William Saab confirmed on Thursday that a US citizen, who is also a military personnel, was recently detained in the country.
Saab revealed during a press conference that the individual, who holds dual US and Mexican nationality, entered Venezuela without proper documentation or support.
“He entered without any kind of documentation and without support regarding what he came to do in the country,” Saab stated.
The prosecutor emphasized that the detained individual will undergo a fair trial, with an objective, independent, and impartial investigation.
“We are always attentive and vigilant to ensure due process,” Saab said, adding that he could not provide further details at this time.
The United States has confirmed the detention, stating that the Navy soldier was on a personal trip when he was taken into custody.
The White House has contacted Venezuelan authorities to gather more information about the case.
