On October 18th,hundreds of American citizens living in Spain participated in demonstrations against President Donald Trump and his management,mirroring protests held across the United States and in 17 other countries. The demonstrations, organized by Democrats Abroad (DA) Spain, took place in Madrid, Barcelona, and Málaga.

Thes protests follow a similar wave of demonstrations in Spanish cities with meaningful American populations back in March, indicating a sustained effort by Americans abroad to voice their opposition to the Trump administration’s policies. Andrew Anderson, chair of DA spain, articulated the core concerns driving the protests, stating, Our concern about US democracy has been heightened by the attacks on our constitutional rights. This sentiment reflects a broader anxiety among Americans abroad regarding perceived threats to democratic norms and institutions within the United States. Specifically, concerns centered around civil liberties, voting rights, and the rule of law.

The protests weren’t simply about policy disagreements; they were a direct expression of concern for the future of American democracy.
