American Express to Revamp Platinum Cards

American Express is preparing “major” updates to its U.S. consumer and business Platinum cards later this year, the company said. The refresh aims to enhance travel, dining, and lifestyle benefits, along with the card’s overall look and feel, according to American Express executive Howard Grosfield.

The company highlighted existing benefits such as airport lounge access, dining perks, and hotel benefits. This refresh marks American Express’s “largest investment ever in a Card refresh,” according to the company. The Consumer Platinum Card has been available in the U.S. since 1984 and has received several updates throughout the years.

Business Platinum Card holders can anticipate “more benefits thay can use to help their companies grow.” These cardholders currently have access to a flexible spending limit, business and travel benefits, rewards on business expenses, virtual cards, and cash flow management tools, in addition to dining, lounge, and hotel benefits.
JPMorgan Chase is also planning updates to its Chase Sapphire Reserve card this summer, hinting at more rewarding experiences for its cardholders. Chase also suggested the launch of a Chase Sapphire Reserve credit card for businesses.
