Yangon, Myanmar – An Indonesian social media influencer, identified only by the initials AP, has been granted amnesty and deported from Myanmar after being imprisoned for ‍alleged illegal entry and association with an⁤ armed opposition group. The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the prosperous repatriation of‍ its citizen on July 19, 2025.

Diplomatic Efforts Secure Release

The indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in close⁤ collaboration with the Indonesian Embassy in Yangon, spearheaded diplomatic efforts to secure AP’s release. A formal diplomatic note was submitted to Myanmar authorities, formally ⁤requesting amnesty ⁢for the detained ⁤Indonesian. This move was undertaken⁢ after extensive coordination with AP’s ⁣family.

“The Indonesian Embassy in Yangon accompanied ⁤AP when he left Myanmar on a flight to Bangkok,” stated the Ministry’s Spokesperson, Roy. He further conveyed the deep thankfulness ⁣of⁤ Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sugiono, and the entire Ministry to the Myanmar authorities for granting the amnesty. Gratitude was also extended to all parties who played a role ‍in facilitating AP’s release and the resolution of⁢ his case.

Charges and⁣ Imprisonment

AP,⁢ an Indonesian citizen, was apprehended by Myanmar authorities on December 20, 2024. The charges against him were multifaceted, including allegations of entering Myanmar illegally‍ and meeting ‍with members of an armed opposition group. Consequently, AP faced accusations under Myanmar’s Anti-Terrorism Act, Immigration Law, and the Unlawful Associations Act.

Following a judicial process, AP was sentenced to seven⁢ years in prison. He was held at the notorious Insein‍ Prison in Yangon, Myanmar, during his detention.

The successful repatriation of AP highlights the ⁢ongoing commitment of the indonesian government to protect and assist its citizens abroad, even in challenging ⁤geopolitical circumstances. This case underscores the importance of diplomatic⁢ engagement and international cooperation in resolving such matters.
