Exclusive Interview: AMP Robotics and Waste Connections Revolutionize Recycling in Colorado
Interviewer: Thank you for joining us today. We have with us Mark Ceresa, Division Vice President for Waste Connections, to discuss the recent agreement with AMP Robotics Corp. regarding their upcoming recycling facility in Commerce City, Colorado. Mark, can you share your insights on why Waste Connections chose AMP Robotics for this project?
Mark Ceresa: Absolutely. Our decision to partner with AMP Robotics was driven by their innovative technology and proven track record in enhancing recycling processes. The AMP ONE system, equipped with Smart Sortation technology, offers us a robust solution to improve the processing and sorting capabilities for our single-stream recycling. We believe this facility will set a new standard for efficiency in the industry.
Interviewer: The facility is set to process up to 62,000 tons annually. What impact do you envision this will have on the local community and regional recycling goals?
Mark Ceresa: We see this facility as a significant step toward achieving our regional recycling goals. By optimizing the sorting and processing of recyclables, we’re not only ensuring that more materials are diverted from landfills, but we’re also creating a cleaner stream of recyclable materials. This not only benefits the environment but also contributes to the local economy through job creation and supporting sustainable practices.
Interviewer: I understand that the AMP ONE system offers flexibility in sorting and compliance. Can you elaborate on this aspect?
Mark Ceresa: Certainly. One of the standout features of the AMP ONE system is its adaptability. As the waste stream evolves and commodity requirements shift, the system can adjust accordingly. This flexibility is crucial for us to remain compliant with changing regulations and to align with the demands of our customers. We’re confident that this adaptability will provide long-term benefits for our operations.
Interviewer: How does the pay-per-ton contract structure facilitate Waste Connections’ entry into this market?
Mark Ceresa: The pay-per-ton contract is a game-changer for us. It reduces the financial risks often associated with new investments in technology and infrastructure. By aligning our costs directly with the volume of material processed, we can scale our operations efficiently based on market demand. This model makes it far easier for us to navigate the complexities of entering the recycling market while maintaining fiscal responsibility.
Interviewer: Looking ahead to the facility’s opening in early 2026, what are your expectations for its performance?
Mark Ceresa: We anticipate this facility to be a catalyst for positive change in our recycling efforts. With the advanced capabilities of the AMP ONE system, we expect significant improvements in both the volume and quality of materials we recycle. Moreover, we’re excited about the partnerships we can forge with local businesses and municipalities as we strive toward a more sustainable future. Sustainable practices are at the core of what we do, and we’re committed to leading the way.
Interviewer: Thank you, Mark, for sharing your insights. We look forward to seeing the positive impact of this facility in Commerce City and beyond.
Mark Ceresa: Thank you for having me. We’re excited about the journey ahead!
