Cairo, Egypt – Egyptian pop icon Amr Diab has been awarded £10,000 in damages after a young man slapped him at a lavish wedding ceremony in Cairo. A misdemeanor court in New Cairo ruled in favor of the singer, fining the assailant, Saad Osama, £200 and ordering him to pay the compensation.
The incident, which went viral on social media in June, occurred during the wedding of businessman Mansour Amer’s son to the daughter of producer Mohammed al-Saadi. A video clip showed Diab, known for hits like “Nour El Ain” and ”Tamally ma’ak,” reacting to being grabbed by Osama while posing for a photo.
Diab testified that he was startled by the unexpected contact and reacted instinctively, slapping osama in self-defense. “I was upset because he made me feel pain and lose concentration while I was celebrating the party,” diab stated during the inquest.
He further claimed that Osama had defamed him on social media, alleging that Diab had initiated the physical altercation.
