A New Level of Inclusive Service
An Post, Ireland’s national postal service, is rolling out a new initiative designed to improve the experience for customers who may require a little extra time and support. The “Just A Minute” (JAM) card program, launched across all 883 post offices nationwide, aims to provide discreet assistance to individuals with invisible disabilities or communication barriers.
The JAM card allows customers to simply present the card – or display the JAM App on their smartphone – to a teller, signaling that they may need additional patience and understanding while completing transactions like parcel pick-up, bill payments, or money withdrawals. This simple gesture aims to foster a more comfortable and dignified experience for everyone.
Addressing a Critical need
the program stems from a partnership between An Post and NOW Group, the association behind the original JAM card concept. Maeve Monaghan, CEO of NOW Group, explained that the idea was born from a desire to provide a non-verbal way for individuals to request patience and understanding in various social and business settings. “This simple idea was created to give people with invisible disabilities or communication barriers a discreet way to ask for patience and understanding,” Monaghan stated.
The initiative recognizes that not all disabilities are visible, and that a small accommodation – “Just A Minute” – can significantly impact a customer’s confidence and overall experience. By implementing this program,An Post is sending a clear message that accessibility and dignity are paramount.
An Post’s Commitment to Accessibility
Debbie Byrne, Managing Director of An Post Retail, emphasized the company’s dedication to serving every community in Ireland. “This partnership between An Post and JAM underpins our commitment to ensuring an inclusive and accessible habitat for customers at our 883 post offices nationwide, and to how we are ‘Making Better happen’ every day,” Byrne said. “We’re incorporating the simple and dignified JAM facility with our services because what is ‘Just A Minute’ on our side of the counter, can make the world of difference to a customer’s experience, confidence and quality of life.”
