Ananda Lewis, known for her time as an MTV VJ and her own talk show, has died at the age of 52. Lakshmi Emory, a close friend, announced the Ananda lewis death in a Facebook post, writing, “she’s free, and in His heavenly arms. Lord, rest her soul.” Emory did not provide details regarding the cause of death.
Lewis became a familiar face on MTV in the late 1990s, hosting “Total Request Live” and “Hot Zone.” In 2001, she launched “The Ananda Lewis Show.”
In 2019, Ananda Lewis was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer. She later revealed her decision to forgo a double mastectomy, rather exploring choice methods to monitor the breast cancer. These included dietary changes, vitamin infusions, and hyperbaric chamber sessions.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Lewis discovered her tumor had grown. She then underwent genetically targeted fractionated chemotherapy. A PET scan in October 2023 revealed the cancer had progressed to stage 4, leading her to seek treatment at an integrative facility.
While Lewis expressed regret for initially refusing mammograms due to radiation concerns, she emphasized the importance of women being informed about breast cancer prevention.
In an Essence op-ed published in 2025, Lewis urged women to proactively seek data and make informed choices to avoid a similar journey.”Going into 2025, I would say to women: Do everything in your power to avoid my story becoming yours. If I had known what I know now 10 years ago, perhaps I wouldn’t have ended up here.”
