Initial Arrest and Allegations

FHD, a⁢ 43-year-old man, was released from custody this Saturday after being arrested for alleged involvement in a fire in the Maule⁤ region of ⁢Chile. His release came ​after prosecutors determined there was insufficient evidence to proceed with ⁢charges.

According to La Radio,‌ witnesses ‌reportedly⁤ saw FHD on ‌December ​24th allegedly lighting a fire with a⁢ lighter in grasslands near Numpay.

Prosecutor’s Decision ​and Clarification

Prosecutor‌ Claudia Díaz explained that the decision⁣ not to​ charge FHD was based on a lack ⁣of sufficient evidence and criminal record. She stated the Prosecutor’s Office initially requested an extension of his⁤ detention to conduct further inquiry.

“We requested this​ extension as it appeared to the Prosecutor’s Office​ that greater and better procedures needed to ​be carried⁣ out, in accordance with ‌the principle of objectivity,⁣ than those prior to​ the arrest,” Díaz told​ the ​media.

Crucially, a search of FHD’s clothing revealed No lighter was⁣ found, according to ‌Díaz.

FHD’s Account

FHD himself‍ stated to the⁢ media that he was asleep when ​police detained him. ⁢ “The first ‍one they accuse,that is,the ​first one they‍ see there,they accuse of anything. I was sleeping ‌in a tent and they came and put me in the ​car. My ⁤clothing had ⁤nothing to do with what they said,” he ‌recounted.
