Anderlecht supporters anticipating ⁣a last-minute attacking reinforcement will instead see a strengthening of teh team’s defensive line.Serbian center-back⁢ Mihajlo Ilic‍ arrived on loan from Bologna late on September 8, 2024,⁣ at 11:56 p.m., with an option for Anderlecht to purchase his contract.

Ilic’s Journey to Brussels

Ilic’s⁣ path to Belgium has been somewhat circuitous. He joined Bologna in January 2024 but didn’t feature in any official matches for the Gialloblu.⁢ Prior to his brief stint in Italy, the defender spent‍ the 2023-2024 season with Partizan Belgrade, where he made 31 appearances, contributing 4 goals and 1 ⁤assist.

Defensive Depth for Coach Loyal

The arrival of Ilic provides Anderlecht head coach Nicolas Loyal with additional options at center-back. This is ⁣particularly vital⁤ given⁢ recent challenges in the squad. The team is currently without Adriano Bertaccini due ⁤to injury.

Striker Pursuit Falls Short

Despite the need for attacking firepower following the departure of Kasper Dolberg to Ajax, Anderlecht were unable to secure a new striker during the transfer window. The club reportedly ⁢pursued Danylo Sikan, the Ukrainian forward from Trabzonspor, but negotiations with both the Turkish ‍club and the player ultimately proved unsuccessful.

While fans may have hoped for a different outcome in the attacking department, the addition of ‍Ilic provides a much-needed boost to ‍the defensive core ⁤as Anderlecht navigates the season.
