Updated June 10, 2025
Andor, starring Diego Luna as Cassian Andor, has captivated audiences over two seasons by delving into the rebel spy’s personal connections. The exploration of his relationships, especially with characters like Bix Caleen (Adria Arjona), has elevated Andor from a Rogue One character to a central figure in the Star Wars universe. Caleen, a rebel heroine, has also become a fan favourite.
The brief connection between cassian and Jyn Erso in Rogue One, especially the elevator scene, sparked fan theories about a potential romance. Tony Gilroy, co-writer of rogue One and creator of Andor, is aware of these theories.
Gilroy acknowledged the fan investment in a Cassian and Jyn romance, noting that a kiss was originally filmed but later cut. He said he was pleased the final edit was ambiguous.
Gilroy explained that the Cassian and Bix love story offers a more realistic portrayal of a long-term relationship. He noted that Cassian and Bix have a history predating the events of the show. “I mean, they’re both pretty sexually liberated in their way,” Gilroy said. “I think that first kiss they had, I think the first person they ever slept with is each other.”
Gilroy also pointed out Cassian’s other relationships, referencing his mother’s comments about his girlfriends and his connection with Windi on Niamos. He believes Cassian has a “very healthy idea of what the different calibrations of love are.”
Regarding Cassian and Jyn, Gilroy suggested their moment in Rogue One was influenced by their shared victory against the Empire. ”I mean, why wouldn’t you hold somebody’s hand at the end of the world?” he said.
Gilroy offered his “condolences” to fans who were deeply invested in the Cassian/jyn pairing, acknowledging their dedication to fan fiction. He stated, “I’m sure there’s somebody who will never get over that. I apologize. I really do.”
