The second season of andor has concluded, following an unconventional release schedule of three episodes per week over four weeks. The series once again demonstrates masterclass writing, smoothly leading into the events of Rogue One.
This season, unlike the first, spans four years, with each arc jumping ahead by a year. This approach may have resulted from Tony Gilroy condensing his original five-season plan, potentially causing some arcs and characters to feel rushed or sidelined. The storyline involving Wilmon and saw Gerrera, as well as the opening arc with Cassian’s imprisonment, felt somewhat meandering, lacking significant payoff.
Despite these criticisms, the writers adeptly navigated the time jumps, naturally progressing the central stories and themes. Two arcs focus on the people of Ghorman, a plot point previously teased in the first season of Andor and mentioned in Star Wars Rebels. the execution of these events reveals the sinister plans against Ghorman.
The seeds of Ghorman’s downfall were planted early in the season at an Imperial summit. High-ranking officials, including Orson krennic, plotted to exploit the planet’s resources, essential for Death Star construction. Propaganda and oppression were used to turn the narrative against the ghormans, culminating in a false flag operation that led to a massacre. the political fallout, alluded to in Rebels,is fully realized with Mon Mothma’s departure from the Senate after denouncing Palpatine.
Cassian’s accidental killing of an ISB spy in front of mon Mothma highlights the brutal cost of rebellion. This moment underscores the horrors mon had previously only confronted through political maneuvering.
