Cortes, a 28-year-old from Henderson, Nevada, entered the contest with a perfect record of 25-0 with 13 knockouts. The fight served as both his Zuffa Boxing debut and his first professional bout in the lightweight division, as he moved up from super featherweight.
His opponent, Eridson Garcia, is a 31-year-old southpaw from the Dominican Republic based in Houston. Garcia entered the fight with a record of 23-2 and 14 knockouts, having most recently won a split decision victory over Taiga Imanaga in December 2025.
Cortes controlled the distance throughout the fight, utilizing combinations and inside work to pick apart Garcia.
