Android 16 QPR1 Beta 2: Call Chip Update
Android 16 QPR1 Beta Streamlines Call Management with Status bar Chip
The latest Android 16 QPR1 Beta 2 introduces a more efficient way to manage active calls, including Gemini Live sessions. The update focuses on improving the functionality of the status bar chip during calls.
Previously, tapping the call chip would directly open the calling submission. Now, with the Android 16 update, tapping the pill-shaped chip slides down the ongoing call notification. This provides immediate access to essential controls.
Users can now quickly hang up, adjust the speaker volume, or mute the microphone directly from the notification panel. This enhancement mirrors the streamlined approach introduced in Android 15 QPR1 for screen casting, recording, and sharing, which featured a prominent status bar chip and smoother animations.

The updated call chip provides the same notification features, including the ability to expand or shrink the view using the corner chevron. This behavior aligns with the functionality of Live Updates, offering a consistent user experience.
This new Android 16 QPR1 call chip behavior extends to Gemini Live, enabling users to quickly hang up or place the call on hold. Resuming a held session requires just two taps, further simplifying call management.
