BALTIMORE — The Boston Red Sox snapped a four-game losing streak with a dominant 17-1 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday, fueled by a 10-run ninth inning and a standout performance from designated hitter Andruw Monasterio.
Monasterio went 3-for-6 with two doubles, a grand slam, three runs scored and four RBIs in the rout. Batting fifth as the DH, he delivered extra-base hits against three different Orioles pitchers, including a grand slam off reliever Keegan Akin in the ninth inning that helped chase him from the game. It was Monasterio’s first home run of the 2026 season and his first career grand slam.
The offensive explosion came after a strong start from left-handed pitcher Garrett Crochet, who struck out seven over six shutout innings. Crochet retired the first seven batters he faced and settled into a rhythm after a rough outing earlier in the season. His performance marked a rebound following an 11-run loss over 1⅔ innings against Minnesota just two starts prior.
Willson Contreras added a three-run homer and Caleb Durbin a two-run shot in the ninth inning, extending the Red Sox lead after Monasterio’s grand slam. The inning began with Boston already holding a lead, but the ten-run burst turned a competitive game into a rout. It was the Red Sox’s biggest inning of the season and their most lopsided win since a 17-0 victory over the Chicago Cubs on April 27, 2024.
