Allegations and Defense
Ó hAnnaidh is accused of displaying a flag in support of Hezbollah, a proscribed association in the United Kingdom. He denies the charge, characterizing it as politically motivated. His legal team is arguing that the prosecution was initiated outside the six-month statutory time limit for bringing such charges, and is seeking to have the case dismissed on those grounds.
Courtroom Delay
The initial hearing was scheduled for Westminster Magistrates Court, but was postponed due to unexpected flooding that forced the building’s closure on September 25, 2024. today’s proceedings at Woolwich Crown Court will center on the judge’s decision regarding whether the case will proceed to a full trial or be dropped due to the statute of limitations concern.
The outcome of this hearing will determine the future of the case and could have important implications for Ó hAnnaidh and Kneecap, who have gained prominence for their Irish-language rap and politically charged lyrics.
