VENICE – Two exhibitions showcasing contemporary japanese art will debut in Europe during the 19th International Exhibition of Architecture – the Venice Biennale 2025. The exhibitions, organized by Anonymous Art Project, will run independently in support of the Japan Pavilion exhibition, titled In-Between.

Founded in 2023 by entrepreneur Hiroyuki Maki, Anonymous Art Project is a philanthropic program that supports Japanese artists through donations, sponsorships, and funding for museums and exhibitions both in Japan and internationally.

Kengo Kito: Lines at the National Archaeological Museum
Kengo Kito’s Lines, running from May 6 to Sept. 28,2025,is a site-specific installation engaging with Venice’s cultural heritage and Renaissance architecture. Kito, born in Nagoya in 1977, is known for using ready-made materials to create pictorial works and environmental installations. His work explores connections between matter, color, and shape, with a focus on the relationship between art and architecture.
The installation is located in the courtyard of the Agrippa and in Hall V of the museum, creating a dialogue between Renaissance and Byzantine architectural styles. The project also includes a temporary maintenance intervention on the wall behind the Agrippa sculpture.
According to a press release, Kito’s intervention coincides with the reopening of the museum’s historic entrance at Piazzetta San Marco, marking a new phase in its history.
Mika Ninagawa with EiM: Interstice at Palazzo Bollani
Mika Ninagawa with EiM: Interstice,curated by Eriko Kimura,will be on display from May 10 to July 21,2025. This marks the first European solo exhibition for photographer and director Mika Ninagawa, in collaboration with the creative collective EiM (Eternity in A Moment).
The immersive installation explores themes of border, transition, and overlap, merging reality and fiction through images, lights, and sounds. Ninagawa, born in tokyo in 1972, is known for her bold use of color and visual poetics that blend pop aesthetics, natural symbolism, and conventional Japanese culture.
Ninagawa’s work combines photographic experimentation with subjects like flowers and landscapes with a strong emotional charge. EiM contributes design, data science, and cinematography expertise to create immersive experiences.

The opening of the two exhibitions on Saturday,May 10,2025,will feature a performative event focused on Japanese street food,specifically oden,a typical winter dish.The artistic collective L pack will animate the event.
