Danish cyclist Anthon Charmig of Uno-X Mobility won stage two of the Tour Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes on June 8, 2026. Charmig broke away from a 10-man lead group after the Côte de Saint-Vidal climb to secure his first professional victory on European soil, according to reporting by Pat Kinsella for Yahoo Sports.
How did Anthon Charmig win stage two?
Charmig spent the majority of the day in a 10-man breakaway that established a dominant lead. According to Yahoo Sports, this lead group maintained a gap of over five minutes ahead of the peloton for most of the stage.

The decisive move happened after the final climb of the day, the Côte de Saint-Vidal. Charmig attacked the lead pack and steadily increased his advantage to take the win. He was chased by Henri-François Renard-Haquin of Picnic PostNL and Vlad Van Mechelen of Bahrain Victorious, who finished second and third, respectively.
Other riders who featured in the day’s breakaway included Raúl García Pierna of Movistar and Clément Braz Afonso of Groupama – FDJ United.
What does this victory mean for Charmig?
The win marks a significant milestone for the Danish rider. It is only the second professional victory of his career and his first time winning a race in Europe. His previous professional win occurred four years ago.
Charmig attributed his performance to a positive team environment and a specific training block. He told reporters that he’d come straight from four weeks of altitude training with his team.
For me, I don’t get too many chances. It’s an incredible feeling! I’m so happy to be here.

Who leads the general classification?
Despite Charmig’s stage win, Alex Baudin of EF Education-EasyPost remains the leader in the general classification. Baudin finished the stage in 59th place but maintained the overall lead he established after winning the opening stage on June 7, 2026.
Baudin’s position was supported by teammates Ben Healy and Sean Quinn, who protected him throughout the day. While Baudin kept the yellow jersey, Clément Braz Afonso claimed the polka-dot King of the Mountains jersey following a strong performance on the day’s final two climbs.
The race dynamics show a clear split between the aggressive breakaway riders and the GC contenders. While Charmig capitalized on a massive five-minute gap to secure a rare career win, Baudin’s strategy focused on preservation and teamwork to keep the overall lead.
