Anthony Ramos Reveals the Financial Struggles of Broadway Performers
Anthony Ramos discussed the financial challenges of Broadway performers in a recent podcast. He revealed that during his time with Hamilton in its early Off-Broadway days, he earned about $420 a week.
When it moved to Broadway in July 2015, pay increased, but challenges remained. Ramos noted that ensemble members might earn around $1,800 a week on Broadway. However, deductions for agents and taxes can significantly reduce take-home pay.
Ramos explained that performers pay 10% to their agent, another 10% to their manager, and taxes can take away 30% to 40% of their earnings. Despite better pay on Broadway, many performers still face financial instability.
