Anthropic has committed to spending $11.6 billion on cloud services from Akamai Technologies over seven years, according to reporting from Reuters on Sept. 24, 2026. The multi-year agreement could expand by an additional $9 billion, bringing the potential total commitment to approximately $20 billion and sending Akamai shares up 16 per cent in extended trading following the announcement.
Infrastructure and Financial Terms of the Akamai-Anthropic Deal
The contract is designed to support Anthropic's accelerating CPU workload demands by using Akamai Cloud's distributed AI infrastructure and software. The transaction requires about $5.5 billion in total capital expenditure from Akamai. To secure and pre-purchase critical supply chain components, including memory, Akamai plans to increase its 2026 capital spending by about $1.7 billion, while anticipating no impact on its 2026 revenue guidance.
As part of the strategic alignment, Akamai issued Anthropic a warrant allowing the acquisition of non-voting convertible Series B Preferred Stock equivalent to 7.7 million shares of Akamai’s common stock on an as-converted basis, which reaches up to roughly 5 per cent of Akamai’s common stock outstanding, priced at an exercise rate of $111.33 per share. About 2 per cent of the warrant vests in connection with the initial $11.6 billion commitment. Approximately 1 per cent of common stock would vest with each additional $3 billion purchase as the commitment successfully expands up to an extra $9 billion during the seven-year term.

This new agreement adds to more than $2.8 billion in multi-year Cloud Infrastructure Services commitments announced across Akamai’s customer base earlier in 2026.
