Alessandro Tiberi views his recent performance at the Tour of Poland as crucial preparation for the upcoming Vuelta a España, drawing parallels to his successful build-up for the Giro d’Italia.Finishing second overall in Pologne, tiberi demonstrated strong form and a measured approach, prioritizing endurance and strategic efforts ahead of the challenging spanish Grand Tour.
Pologne as a Vuelta Dress Rehearsal
“It’s a very vital moment for me, Pologne is a bit like the Tour of the Alps last year,” Tiberi explained to reporters after securing his second-place finish. He previously finished third at the 2024 tour of the Alps before competing in the Giro d’Italia, and sees a similar benefit from the Polish race. The Tour of Poland served as a vital chance to assess his condition and refine his tactics without overexerting himself.
“The Alps was a great chance to test my legs for the Giro, here it’s been the same kind of thing, so I hope to improve even more between now and the start of the race,” Tiberi stated. He emphasized a conservative approach, focusing on building endurance rather than pushing for maximal efforts.”Without a doubt, it boosts my morale ahead of La Vuelta and makes me feel more secure about my condition.”
Measured Efforts and Promising Signs
Tiberi deliberately avoided pushing himself into the red, recognizing the demands of La Vuelta. Despite this restraint, his results in Pologne were highly encouraging. Even the final time trial, which he admitted was slightly shorter than ideal, saw him maintain a consistent rhythm throughout.
“I tried to hold my best pace on the first climb, and then I felt my legs were good and I coudl keep up a good rhythm all the way to the end,” he said. He acknowledged a preference for longer efforts but demonstrated adaptability, stating, “I tend to prefer longer efforts, but sometimes in the short ones, and if I mentalize myself well, I can manage to do something good. I’m pleased to be able to do what I could.”
Caruso’s Support and Punchy Stage Performances
Tiberi will benefit from the experienced support of teammate Damiano Caruso at the Vuelta. Caruso recently showcased his own impressive form with a solo victory in the Vuelta a Burgos, and previously secured a notable win at the alto de Velefique summit finish in a past vuelta. This partnership provides Tiberi with a valuable ally for the challenging mountain stages.
Beyond the time trial, Tiberi also impressed on Pologne’s hilly stages. He finished fourth on the crucial uphill finish in Karpacz, closely following stage winner Victor Langellotti (Ineos Grenadiers) and limiting his losses to eventual General Classification winner Brandon McNulty (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) on the demanding ascent to Bukovina Tatranska.
“I never held back when it came to making an effort, and whenever I had the legs, I tried to attack,” Tiberi confirmed. He believes the race will prove invaluable as he heads into the Vuelta. “All in all, I think Pologne will serve me well ahead of the Vuelta.”
