What is Live Translation?

The⁢ new Live Translation feature allows for real-time conversation translation directly through AirPods. Activated by holding the touchpads on the headphone⁤ stems, the AirPods microphones focus on the dominant speaker, transmitting their voice to the connected iPhone. Apple Intelligence then ⁣translates ⁣the speech adn delivers it to the listener via a synthetic voice within the headphones.

The demo showcased the feature’s potential, highlighting its ability to translate from various languages. Though, a crucial limitation has emerged.

EU Restrictions: A Major Hurdle

Despite the impressive demonstration, Live Translation will ⁢not be available to users within the European Union. Apple explicitly states: “Live translation with ⁣AirPods is not available if you are in the EU and the country or ‍region of your Apple account is also in the EU.” This ‍restriction appears to stem from legislative concerns ⁢within the EU, though the specific regulations haven’t been fully detailed.

This limitation is notably notable as it prevents translation *from* any language *to* a language⁢ within the EU,even if the user is not a⁤ resident of⁢ the EU.

Other Improvements & Ergonomic ‍Updates

Beyond Live Translation, Apple ‍has focused on improving ⁤the comfort and fit of the new AirPods. The headphones now include five different rubber⁤ ear⁢ cushion options,designed to provide a more secure and agreeable fit,as well as better noise isolation.
