Apple AirPods Production Expansion in India
Foxconn, AppleS primary manufacturing partner, will double monthly production of new AirPods at their facility in Hyderabad, India.
Doubling Production Capacity
Foxconn’s hyderabad facility currently targets 100,000 units monthly. They will increase this to 200,000 units by overhauling five production lines,as reported by The Economic Times. The workforce will also more than double from 2,000 to approximately 5,000 employees.
Some machinery will be transferred from Foxconn facilities in Vietnam. Foxconn is investing a total of ₹48 billion, wiht ₹30 billion already invested.
Continued Diversification Outside of China
Apple is diversifying manufacturing outside of China, recently moving Apple Vision Pro production to Vietnam. The increased AirPods output from India will serve India, the United States, and Europe. Electronics from India are currently exempt from US tariffs, and Apple already manufactures most US iPhones in India.
Apple is also expanding production within the United States.
