Apple is modifying developer proceeds and adjusting regional App Store pricing across multiple international markets, according to official notices published by the company for software creators. The updates, which take effect on August 27 and September 14, respond directly to shifting local tax regulations and foreign exchange rate movements designed to maintain price consistency across the platform’s 175 global storefronts.
Apple Adjusts App Store Proceeds and Regional Pricing
Tax Law Changes Drive August 27 Proceeds Overhaul
Under the changes taking effect on August 27, developer proceeds from eligible apps and in-app purchases have been modified in Morocco, the Republic of the Congo, and Tanzania.
Morocco introduced a 20 percent value-added tax, while the Republic of the Congo implemented an 18 percent value-added tax. Additionally, Tanzania increased its digital sales tax rate from 2 percent to 3 percent. Apple confirmed through its developer documentation that Exhibit B of the Paid Applications Agreement is being updated to reflect that the tech giant now collects and remits applicable taxes in both Morocco and the Republic of the Congo.
September 14 Brings Sweeping Storefront Shifts
Global storefront pricing will shift beginning September 14 for Israel, Indonesia, Morocco, and the Republic of the Congo. According to Apple, prices for apps and in-app purchases will update automatically in those regions unless developers have explicitly selected one of them as the base storefront for their products.
Storefront Equalization and Price Protection Rules
Developers who selected Israel, Indonesia, Morocco, or the Republic of the Congo as their base storefront will see zero price changes on that specific storefront. For all other storefronts, prices will adjust upward or downward to maintain equalization with the chosen base price.
Several protections remain in place for specific types of digital transactions. Apple stated that prices will not change in any region if an in-app purchase is an auto-renewable subscription. Furthermore, prices will stay untouched on storefronts where developers manually manage pricing instead of relying on automated equalized rates.
Tools and Timelines for App Store Developers
Developers can currently review upcoming price adjustments within the Pricing and Availability section of Apps in App Store Connect. Apple maintains that creators retain the flexibility to manually alter the prices of their applications, in-app purchases, and auto-renewable subscriptions at any time. Translations of the updated Paid Applications Agreement will roll out on the Apple Developer website within one month.
