Matte Display Coating and Material Design Choices
To combat the gradual degradation of the display surface, Apple selected a matte finish for the iPhone Duo rather than the high-gloss displays found on rival foldable handsets. This exterior coating shares operational similarities with the nano-texture coating available on select Mac computers and iPad models.
According to Marieb, When you look at glossy displays, the specularity of them makes it very easy to pick up any sort of topology differences as you go across…that’s part of the reason we picked the matte [coating on the screen].
