Apple is preparing a strategic shift in its hardware release cycle and pricing structure for the upcoming iPhone 18 lineup, according to reporting from Forbes. The company is expected to maintain steady pricing for its premium models while adjusting the costs of lower-tier devices to offset rising expenses for memory and storage.
The iPhone 18 Pro is expected to be priced around $1,099, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max will remain around $1,199. This approach mirrors a strategy used by Samsung earlier in 2026 with the Galaxy S26, where the company held the price of the high-end Ultra model flat while increasing the cost of the base and Plus models.
Split Launch Strategy and the iPhone Ultra
Apple’s traditional September launch event will deviate from previous years. Instead of unveiling the full suite of new devices, the company will only present a portion of the Family Eighteen to the press in September. A second event is being planned for late in the first quarter or early in the second quarter of 2027 to introduce the remaining models.
The September event is expected to feature three premium devices: the iPhone 18 Pro, the iPhone 18 Pro Max, and a new foldable device called the iPhone Ultra. Forbes contributor David Phelan has predicted that the keynote for these devices will likely take place on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.
iPhone 17 Performance in the United States
Data from Counterpoint Research indicates that the iPhone 17 has seen significant success in the U.S. Market. In the first quarter of 2026, Apple’s iPhone sales volume in the United States increased by 1.3% year-over-year.
This growth occurred despite a broader decline in the U.S. Smartphone market, which fell by 5.7% year-over-year during the same period. Apple’s share of the volume grew by 4% year-over-year, while sales of Android devices in the U.S. Declined by 14.4% year-over-year.
Hardware Ecosystem Updates
Beyond the iPhone, Apple is updating several core product lines. The MacBook Air and iPad Air have been updated with M5 and M4 chips, respectively. The wearable segment includes the release of the Apple Watch Series 11 and the Apple Watch Ultra 3, alongside the AirPods Pro 3, which feature active noise cancellation.
Apple is also increasing orders for the MacBook Neo. However, this product line has faced specific challenges, including constraints regarding memory and storage.
Software and Privacy Developments
On the software front, macOS 27 is expected to introduce visual improvements. Apple is also addressing location privacy and responding to regulatory pressure from the European Union, which is forcing further changes to the company’s ecosystem.
Other recent developments include the settlement of a class-action lawsuit regarding iPhone AI and the release of a Pride 2026 collection.
