The Apple Mac Mini featuring the M6 chip launched on September 22, 2026, with an entry-level price of 899 Swiss francs or 1,049 euros, marking a 50 percent price increase over the previous M4 model, Digitec reported. As noted in testing by Digitec, the base configuration still ships with 16 gigabytes of RAM and a 256-gigabyte solid-state drive.

Price Increases and Hardware Upgrades on the M6 Mac Mini

Apple attributed the sharp price jump to the ongoing global memory crisis impacting random-access memory and flash storage production. According to c’t uplink testing cited by heise online, memory pricing pressures have pushed nearly all new mini-PCs well past historical baseline costs, leaving only a tiny fraction of devices priced under 700 euros. BornCity reported that configuring a 2-TB solid-state drive version of the new Mac Mini costs approximately 1,899 to 1,900 US dollars, a figure driven higher by Apple returning to fully soldered NAND storage that bars third-party component upgrades.

Despite the steep cost of hardware upgrades, the M6 processor delivers substantial performance gains. Independent testing cited by BornCity indicates that the TSMC 2-nanometer processor architecture enables CPU performance increases up to 40 percent over the M4 generation, alongside graphics capabilities that reach double the speed in specific gaming workloads like Cyberpunk 2077 running at 1080p resolution.

M6 Architecture Accelerates Local AI and Machine Learning Tasks

The M6 architecture employs a 12-core processor layout combining two super cores, four performance cores, and six efficiency cores, paired with a 12-core graphics processor. Vietnam.vn reported that the silicon also integrates a 16-core Neural Engine designed to accelerate machine learning and local artificial intelligence tasks. Because of these upgrades, Digitec found that the base M6 chip handles demanding image processing, local language models, and creative applications with speeds approaching previous Pro-tier hardware configurations.

Connectivity options on the chassis include three Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports on the rear alongside two USB-C ports on the front, an HDMI 2.1 output, and a standard 2.5-gigabit Ethernet connection that buyers can upgrade to 10 gigabits. Wireless capabilities receive upgrades to Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. Digitec noted that the hardware stays exceptionally quiet and energy-efficient under load despite the significant jump in raw compute capability.

Performance Comparisons Against Pro-Tier Silicon

When compared directly with higher-end alternatives like the Mac Mini powered by the M5 Pro, distinct operational tradeoffs emerge. Vietnam.vn detailed that the M5 Pro features a 15-core processor with five super cores and ten performance cores, alongside a 16-core graphics unit and a memory bandwidth ceiling of 307 gigabytes per second compared to the M6 limit of 170 gigabytes per second. For heavy 3D rendering and large video production pipelines, the M5 Pro retains distinct advantages due to its broader memory bandwidth and expanded core count.

The base M6 Mac Mini costs 899 Swiss francs or 1,049 euros in 2026, compared to the 599 Swiss francs or 699 euros launch price of the M4 version released in 2024.
