Apple Sued by Shareholder Over Siri Delay Claims

‌ Updated June 20, 2025
⁢

Apple is ⁤facing a proposed class action lawsuit filed by shareholder Eric Tucker in ‍a California court,‍ alleging violations of federal securities laws‍ related to the delayed rollout of its ⁤personalized Siri features.‍ The lawsuit names CEO⁣ Tim Cook,‍ former ‍CFO Luca Maestri, and current CFO Kevan Parekh as⁢ defendants.

The complaint claims Apple made⁢ misleading statements about the advanced AI-based Siri during its WWDC 2024 keynote. According to the ‍lawsuit, Apple lacked a working ⁤prototype at⁣ the time and had no reasonable basis to believe it could deliver the advertised product within the iPhone ⁢16 cycle.

The‌ lawsuit references a Daring Fireball post by John Gruber, who suggested the ⁤siri features⁣ were merely a “concept video” upon their initial announcement. It also mentions the removal of‍ an‌ ad ‍starring bella Ramsey, which promoted the personalized Siri.

Apple initially announced in March that the delayed Siri features were expected to roll out “in ‌the coming year.” however, marketing chief‌ Greg Joswiak later clarified that the “coming year” refers to⁤ 2026, with iOS 26.4 being the likely target for the release.

Following the disclosure of the delay, ‍Apple’s stock price reportedly dropped⁣ nearly 13%.

Apple has not yet issued a public ⁤statement regarding the lawsuit.

What’s next

The lawsuit’s certification by a‌ judge will determine its progression. The ‌outcome could influence apple’s future disclosures regarding ⁢product growth and timelines, particularly concerning AI-driven features.
