Apple, the manufacturer of iPhones, has decided to acquire Pixelmator, a well-known image editing app developer.
Pixelmator announced this news on its blog on November 1st, stating that its team will be joining Apple.
Founded in 2007 by brothers Saulius and Adas Dailide, Pixelmator is a Lithuania-based company that has gained recognition for its image editing software, including Pixelmator, Pixelmator Pro, and Photomator, which compete with Adobe’s Photoshop.
Notably, Pixelmator has developed an image editing app that can be used exclusively on desktop Macs and Apple devices, such as iPhones.
In 2018, Pixelmator Pro was selected as Apple’s ‘Mac App of the Year’ for its innovative features, including the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to remove distracting objects from photos and automatic color adjustment.
Recently, Apple released the first version of ‘Apple Intelligence’, which includes photo editing functions like ‘Clean Up’, which can erase people or objects from photos using AI.
Pixelmator stated, “We have always been inspired by Apple and have focused on creating products with sophisticated design, easy-to-use interfaces, and high performance.”
The company also assured users that there will be no significant changes to their software, including Pixelmator Pro, at this time due to the acquisition.
The specific terms of this acquisition have not been disclosed.
