Tech Giant Expands Manufacturing Footprint in Southeast Asia

Batam,Indonesia – Apple is making a major bet on Indonesia, announcing a $1 billion investment in a new airtag factory on the island of Batam. The facility, slated to be operational by early 2026, is expected to create 2,000 jobs and meet 65% of Apple’s global AirTag demand.

The proclamation came after Indonesian Investment Minister Rosan Roeslani met with Apple Vice President of Global Policy Nick Amman and his delegation in Jakarta.

“They have committed to the first phase of the AirTag factory with a US$1 billion investment,” Roeslani told reporters. The Indonesian government is actively encouraging other vendors to join the project, hoping to replicate the success seen in Thailand and Vietnam, which have attracted over 23 and 30 vendors respectively to similar initiatives.

Apple has already identified land in Batam for the factory and presented it to Roeslani. construction is expected to begin soon.

This investment marks a significant step in apple’s global manufacturing strategy and highlights Indonesia’s growing importance as a hub for technology production.

“This news definitely shows that Apple is looking at Indonesia as a key player in its future manufacturing plans,” saeid Sarah, a tech industry analyst.

The move allows Apple to diversify its manufacturing base, tap into Indonesia’s growing workforce, and strengthen its presence in Southeast Asia, a region with a rapidly expanding consumer market.
