Apple TV+ Launches New Golf Comedy Series, ⁢”Stick”

Apple TV+ has entered the sports comedy arena wiht “Stick,”⁣ a new series starring Owen Wilson and Peter Dager. Wilson plays Pryce⁢ Cahill, a ⁢former golf superstar mentoring a young prodigy, portrayed by Dager, after a career setback.

Showrunner Jason Keller drew inspiration for Wilson’s character from his father’s experiences as a professional baseball player. Keller told ADWEEK he wondered about the long-term impact of athletic greatness.

The series arrives as golf experiences a ⁢surge in popularity. Keller noted the sport’s increasing diversity, with more women and younger individuals participating. The National Golf foundation estimates golf’s reach at 138 million people, a 45% increase as 2016.

Leagues⁢ like ⁤TGL are attracting a wider audience to golf ‌in unconventional settings. TMRW⁤ Sports research indicates that while women and people of color are underrepresented​ on traditional courses, ⁢they constitute notable portions of golfers at “off-course” facilities.
