Apple released an update for Pixelmator Pro on April 9, 2026, introducing expanded hardware support, new design templates, and workflow enhancements. The update applies to the image editing application that Apple acquired in 2024, further integrating it into the company’s professional creative ecosystem.
The update focuses heavily on expanding the app’s capabilities for professional photographers and designers. A significant portion of the release involves expanded RAW image support, allowing users to work with files from a wider range of high-end camera systems. This support extends to Photomator, a photo editing sister application to Pixelmator Pro.
Expanded RAW Camera Support
The latest version of Pixelmator Pro adds comprehensive support for several new camera models. Users of the Creator Studio version can now work with compressed RAW images from the Sony Alpha ILCE-7M5, as well as the FUJIFILM GFX 100S II and FUJIFILM GFX 100RF.
For Nikon users, the update enables compatibility with High Efficiency (HE) and High Efficiency Star (HE*) RAW images from the Nikon Z5II and Nikon Z50II cameras. The software now supports RAW images captured in High Resolution mode from the Panasonic LUMIX DC-S1RM2.
Design Templates and Mockup Tools
Apple has updated the template and mockup categories within Pixelmator Pro to assist developers and designers in creating marketing assets. New options have been added for the App Screenshot, Bento Grid, and Devices categories.
Notably, the update introduces new mockups specifically for the iPhone 17 models, allowing creators to place their app designs within the latest Apple hardware frames.
To improve cross-platform workflows, Apple has enhanced the compatibility of SVG files exported from Pixelmator Pro. These files are now designed to have fewer issues when opened in Adobe Illustrator.
Workflow and Interface Enhancements
The update introduces several quality-of-life improvements for the editing canvas. Users can now touch and hold an image on the canvas to instantly compare the original image with the edits made using Color Adjustments and Effects tools.
Customization options for the interface have also increased. The Pixelmator Pro Tools sidebar can now be customized via the menu bar by navigating to View and selecting Customize Tools
.
A suite of new keyboard shortcuts has been implemented to speed up editing tasks, some of which have also been brought to the iPad version of the app. These include:
- Using the number keys 1 through 9 to change layer opacity across all supported tools.
- Using Shift-Plus and Shift-Minus to cycle through layer blend modes.
- Pressing and holding the Option key when using Select Subject to base the selection on all layers within a document.
- Using Command-J to duplicate and Command-Shift-J to cut and paste a selected area.
- Using Option-Comma and Option-Period to switch quickly between the topmost and bottommost layers.
- Using the Space bar to play or pause video playback in documents that contain video layers.
Creator Studio Integration and Pricing
The feature set of this update varies depending on how the software is licensed. Apple offers Pixelmator Pro both as a standalone one-time purchase on the App Store for Mac and as part of the Apple Creator Studio subscription.
Apple Creator Studio is a suite of creative applications that includes Final Cut Pro, Logic Pro, Pixelmator Pro, Keynote, Pages, and Numbers. The subscription for this suite is priced at $12.99 per month or $129 per year.
While the standard version of Pixelmator Pro receives the new templates and RAW image support, several advanced features are exclusive to the Creator Studio subscription. These exclusives include the new keyboard shortcuts, the warp tool, apparel mockups, and the dedicated iPad application.
This update is part of a broader push for the Creator Studio suite on April 9, 2026, which also included updates to Logic Pro, adding a Step Reflex Pack and Dolby Atmos Mix preview capabilities, as well as updates to Final Cut Camera.
