AppleA blood oxygen concentration sensor is back for US users with the Apple Watch smartwatch. After several years of legal disputes, the function was decided to be restored.
The feature was removed from the US model at the end of 2023 after authorities recognized patent infringement by medical device manufacturer Masimo. According to an Apple announcement on the 14th, following the decision by the US Customs Authority, the functionality will be restored through software updates for models with this feature disabled.
However, blood oxygen data is measured and calculated on a paired iPhone, not on the Apple Watch app, and the results will be viewed in the breathing function section of the Health app.
Apple Watch’s blood oxygen concentration sensor was first installed in the Series 6 released in 2020.
