To combat this, Apple built the Duo hinge using AI algorithms and advanced manufacturing techniques, according to statements made by Johny Srouji, the company’s chief hardware officer, during the Surprise and Shine event. Additionally, a confocal laser progressively scans the topology of every single unit, and systems 3D print up to 25 micro layers of a custom photopolymer to eliminate residual waviness.
