Appleton, Wis., is preparing for a significant heat wave this weekend. Following a chance of rain and thunderstorms Thursday night and Friday, the area will experience soaring temperatures.
The National Weather Service (NWS) in Green Bay forecasts high temperatures in the mid-90s for saturday and Sunday, June 21-22. Monday,June 23,will see temperatures in the low 90s. The heat index,wich factors in humidity,is predicted to range between 95 and 105 degrees on Saturday and sunday,creating potentially dangerous conditions.
The NWS also noted that overnight temperatures are not expected to drop below 70 degrees, offering little respite from the heat. This poses a particular concern for those planning to sleep outdoors.
The extreme heat is expected to last through monday, June 23, before a slight cooling trend brings temperatures down to the upper 70s on Tuesday, June 24. There is also a 50 percent chance of rain on Monday.
