Arcane Writer Reveals Six-Year Journey Behind Iconic Final Scenes
Rewrites are common in TV, especially for a series like Arcane. However, one writer, Amanda Overton, shared in an interview that some final scenes of the show have remained mostly unchanged for six years.
Overton emphasized the team’s focus on clear storytelling. They prefer to show rather than tell and have known their direction for years. “We wrote the end scenes, versions of them, six years ago,” she stated. The closing scene between Vi and Jinx is nearly identical to the original draft. This allowed the writers to identify key moments they wanted to showcase throughout the series.
Overton also discussed how the depth of the story grows with viewer engagement. Fans notice new details with each viewing. She aims for storytelling that invites reflection and encourages deeper thinking after finishing the show.
These comments arise amidst fan speculation that Arcane’s second season felt rushed. Showrunner Christian Linke responded to these claims via social media. He noted that the team would have appreciated additional time for the second season. Despite tight deadlines, Linke expressed gratitude for the substantial budgets they received from Riot Games to produce Arcane, stating, “We all feel incredibly lucky.”
