The Argentine government has announced three non-working tourist days for 2025. These days are May 2, August 15, and November 21. This decision comes from Decree 1027/2024, published in the Official Gazette.
The law allows the government to establish up to three non-working days annually, which must fall on a Monday or Friday. This aims to boost domestic tourism in Argentina.
The May 2 date falls on a Friday, creating a long weekend, following International Workers’ Day on May 1. Similarly, August 15 is also a Friday in 2025, coinciding with the commemoration of the death of José de San Martín, a key figure in Argentina’s liberation.
November 21 will also fall on a Friday. It follows the Day of National Sovereignty, which remembers the Battle of Vuelta de Obligado on November 20, 1845. This date is often adjusted to form long weekends.
The declared non-working days are not considered official holidays. This means businesses can choose whether to give their employees the day off. Unlike holidays, non-working days do not create additional pay obligations for employers; employees receive only their regular daily salary.
In 2024, there were 19 public holidays, contributing positively to the economy, particularly in tourism, food, and hospitality.
