Adan Diggs, a sophomore guard at Goodyear Millennium High School, was named the MaxPreps National Sophomore of the Year on April 9, 2026. The honor underscores the increasing national prominence of Arizona high school basketball and the state’s ability to produce elite talent.
Diggs is currently ranked as the No. 1 player in the 2028 class by Rivals. During the most recent season, the 6-foot-5 guard averaged 22 points per game for the Tigers.
Under Diggs’ leadership, Millennium reached the Open Division state semifinals. In that contest, Diggs recorded 33 points against Phoenix St. Mary’s, though the Knights ultimately advanced to the final following a buzzer-beating 35-foot shot by Mick Riordan.
National Recognition for Arizona Talent
The selection of Diggs marks the second consecutive year that a player from Arizona’s 2028 class has earned a top national honor from MaxPreps. In 2025, Mesa’s Kyi Kyi Miles was named the MaxPreps National Freshman of the Year for the same class.
Diggs now leads the MaxPreps Sophomore All-American team, while Miles was named to the second team.
Other Arizona athletes have also earned significant national distinctions. Phoenix Sunnyslope big man Darius Wabbington was named to the first team of MaxPreps’ All-Junior National team. Wabbington also participated in the USA Basketball Junior National Team April minicamp in Colorado Springs, Colorado, from April 3 to April 5, 2026.
In the senior class, Phoenix St. Mary’s Cameron Williams was named a second-team All-American by MaxPreps. Williams, a McDonald’s All-American, was also one of three finalists for the Gatorade National Player of the Year.
Impact and Development at Millennium
Diggs transferred to Millennium High School from Williams Field in the summer of 2025. His arrival provided an immediate boost to the Tigers’ program.
I tell anybody who ever asks me about him, he is what it looks like. That’s what they look like.
Millennium coach Rich Thornton
Coach Rich Thornton described Diggs as uber-talented
, noting that he possesses the necessary size, length, and athleticism to compete at the highest level. Thornton attributed Diggs’ status as the best player in his class to these physical attributes combined with a rigorous work ethic.
According to Thornton, Diggs is frequently the first player to enter the gym in the morning and the last to leave at night.
Beyond his high school achievements, Diggs has become a recruiting target for the University of Arizona men’s basketball program.
