Flu Cases Rise in Arizona
Phoenix has reported over 2,000 flu cases this season. Dr. Joel Terriquez from the Arizona Department of Health Services noted the increase in cases.
Maricopa County is hosting free flu shot events throughout the month. Claudia Caiceto, who received her shot on Saturday, emphasized the importance of vaccination ahead of holiday gatherings with family and friends.
Half of Arizona’s flu cases are in Maricopa County. Dr. Terriquez mentioned that while cases are higher than usual, they do not yet warrant serious concern. He reminded residents that flu can be severe, with an average of 700 flu-related deaths in Arizona each year.
With Thanksgiving and Christmas approaching, Dr. Terriquez urged people to get vaccinated. A list of free flu shot events in Maricopa County is available online.
