Governor Katie Hobbs ordered flags at all state buildings across Arizona to be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on May 15, 2026, as a tribute to fallen police officers.
The directive was issued in honor of National Peace Officers Memorial Day, an annual observance dedicated to recognizing state, federal and municipal law enforcement officers who were killed in the line of duty.
The observance was established in the 1960s following a proclamation signed by President John F. Kennedy.
Every day, we are grateful for the men and women in law enforcement who make sacrifices to keep Arizonans and Americans safe. We stand with and mourn alongside the families, colleagues and communities who have lost loved ones in law enforcement.
Governor Katie Hobbs
In addition to the flags at state buildings, local businesses and residents are encouraged to participate in the tribute.
