Armed robbers stole $1.8 million from a Brinks armored truck in Northeast Philadelphia on Tuesday morning, according to police and law enforcement sources.
The robbery occurred shortly before 9:45 a.m. On April 21, 2026, on the 7200 block of Torresdale Avenue in the Tacony section of the city. Two men armed with assault rifles approached the vehicle as it was servicing a Budget Financial Center, confronted the driver, and seized bags of cash before fleeing the scene.
No injuries were reported during the incident. Witnesses said the suspects exited a blue Acura SUV, pointed rifles at the armored truck employee, and departed within seconds. Police later located the vehicle under Interstate 95 near Front Street and Fairmount Avenue in the Northern Liberties neighborhood.
Surveillance footage reviewed by investigators shows the suspects exiting the vehicle and pointing a rifle at the Brinks employee. The Federal Bureau of Investigation is leading the investigation alongside the Philadelphia Police Department as authorities work to identify the suspects and recover the stolen cash.
This robbery follows a series of similar incidents in the Philadelphia region, including a June 2025 robbery in Port Richmond where three men were charged with stealing approximately $2 million from an armored truck, and another incident later that month in which two robbers with AR-style rifles held up a Loomis driver delivering cash to an Aldi store on Whitaker Avenue, taking around $100,000 and the driver’s handgun.
Brinks, a national security and cash logistics company that transports money for banks and retailers, confirmed the theft but did not provide further details pending the ongoing investigation. Police have not released descriptions of the suspects or made any arrests in connection with the robbery.
