These changes are designed to reduce fixture congestion for both clubs, providing additional recovery time ahead of their respective EFL Cup quarter-final matches on december 23rd.
EFL Cup Considerations and European Competition
The EFL initially moved the EFL Cup quarter-final games from December 16th to accommodate Crystal Palace’s participation in the UEFA Europa Conference League. Playing on December 16th would have resulted in Palace facing three matches within a five-day period, a schedule deemed overly demanding.
