Police in County Down are investigating an attempted arson that occurred at approximately 3:45 AM on Saturday, October 25, 2025, in the Struell Avenue area of Downpatrick. Two individuals reportedly approached a residence and poured petrol over the front door and a vehicle parked nearby, attempting to ignite them.
Fortunately, the fire did not spread significantly and was quickly extinguished by a resident. A police spokesperson confirmed that multiple children and adults were asleep inside the property at the time of the incident, and no injuries were reported.
Suspect Vehicle Located
Shortly after the attempted arson,a vehicle was found ablaze in the Saul Road area.Authorities believe this vehicle was used by the suspects to flee the scene of the initial incident.
There were a number of children and adults asleep in the property at the time this happened and it is very fortunate nobody was injured.
Police Appeal for Information
The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) is appealing to the public for assistance. anyone with information, including doorbell or dashcam footage from the Struell Avenue or Saul Road areas around 3:45 AM on October 25, 2025, is urged to contact the PSNI at 101, quoting reference number 204 of October 25, 2025.
