president Joe Biden announced $1.2 billion in funding on Thursday,august 31,2023,to establish 32 regional technology hubs across the United States,aiming to boost innovation and create jobs. The initiative, funded through the CHIPS and Science Act of 2022, will focus on technologies like artificial intelligence, advanced manufacturing, and biotechnology. The announcement was made during a visit to Raleigh, North Carolina.

What are the tech Hubs?

The tech hubs are designed to accelerate the development of critical technologies by connecting businesses, researchers, and workers in specific geographic regions. According to a fact sheet released by the White House, the hubs will receive between $30 million and $70 million each over five years.

Which Regions Received Funding?

The 32 designated tech hubs span 32 states and Puerto Rico. Here’s a breakdown of some of the regions receiving funding, as reported by the Department of Commerce:

The CHIPS and Science Act

The funding originates from the CHIPS and Science Act, signed into law by President Biden in August 2022. The act authorized $52.7 billion for domestic semiconductor manufacturing, research and development, and workforce development. (Source: Congress.gov)
