    • Summary of AI‍ Adoption Levels

Generative ‍artificial intelligence has rapidly permeated⁤ the agency landscape, with a recent study indicating widespread adoption and a growing impact on business models. The survey, conducted with over 200 agencies, reveals that nearly all (98%) are utilizing generative AI, with a significant portion (79%) having done so for one to⁤ three ‍years.

Increased Investment in AI Expected

Looking ahead, agencies anticipate even ⁢greater integration of AI. According to the study, 71% of agencies plan to increase their⁤ investments in AI this year, while another 20% intend to maintain their current investment levels.

Franziska von Lewinski, managing partner at⁤ Observatory International hamburg, noted the advanced state of AI adoption ‍within agencies. ⁤”Agencies are very far along ⁢in terms of the use ⁢of AI compared to other industries,”‍ von lewinski said. “There is great potential here that customers can and should also use even more.”

AI Not Displacing Workers

Contrary to initial concerns, the‍ rise of AI has not led to widespread job losses within agencies. The survey ⁤found that ⁣86% of service providers reported no ⁢personnel changes as ⁤a result of AI implementation. Actually, 9% have even expanded their teams, while⁤ only ‍5% have reduced positions due to AI.

Wide Range of AI Applications

The applications ⁤of generative AI within⁢ agencies are diverse, extending beyond basic⁣ chatbots.⁣ Anke Herbener, vice president of the BVDW, emphasized AIS role throughout the entire agency value chain. “AI is already used in the entire value ⁤chain⁤ of agencies,” Herbener said. “They leverage their advantage as innovation drivers to react quickly and flexibly to new opportunities.”

Specifically, the study revealed that⁢ 95% of agencies‍ use generative AI in creative⁣ processes, 81% ⁢in strategic planning, 76% in production and implementation,⁢ 66% in data analysis, and 66% for operational processes. Campaign activation, media ‍planning, and optimization also benefit ⁣from AI, with just under half (45%) of respondents utilizing it for these purposes.

Custom AI Models on the ⁤Rise

Agencies are not solely relying on off-the-shelf⁢ AI solutions. The survey indicated that 29% of agencies have developed their own AI models, while 54%‍ have adapted existing tools to⁣ meet their specific needs, creating what are termed “customized AI models.” These custom models are primarily used in creative processes (60%), production and implementation (52%), and⁤ strategic planning⁤ and progress (44%).⁢ Agency size does ⁢not appear to be a significant factor in the adoption of custom AI models.

impact on⁢ Client Fees and Services

The increasing efficiency driven by AI ⁢is ⁤prompting discussions about its impact ‍on client fees. ⁤Von Lewinski noted that AI use will inevitably influence fee structures, with conversations⁢ already underway. She suggested ⁣a shift away‍ from time-and-materials⁢ billing ⁢toward ‍value-based pricing models, perhaps incorporating success-related bonus ⁢systems.

Agencies as Conversion Drivers

The study suggests that agencies are proactively driving AI adoption,‍ rather than simply reacting to ‍client demands. For the majority of agencies surveyed (62%),less ⁤than 10% of clients⁢ have explicitly requested AI-driven projects.

Evolving Client Relationships

The integration of⁤ AI is ⁤fostering deeper and more strategic ⁣relationships between agencies‍ and their clients. herbener believes that ‍agencies will develop new AI-powered products and services for their clients, such as tailor-made, AI-controlled brands capable of managing customer communication and asset production across all channels. ⁣Von lewinski also anticipates the emergence of agencies as ⁤software providers.

Despite the rapid advancements in AI, von Lewinski⁢ acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding its future impact. “We⁢ don’t even know what’s going on,” she said. “We ‍will be surprised.”

AI Adoption Levels Vary

The study identified varying levels of AI adoption among agencies. Eleven percent are classified as “AI Innovators,” having ⁤worked ⁢with AI for over three years and developing their⁤ own models. The majority (51%) are “Strategic AI Adopters,” using AI for one ⁢to three years and adapting ⁢existing models. “Operational AI Users” (20%) rely on ⁤standardized tools, while “Cautious AI Explorers” (9%) take a conservative approach. A small percentage ⁢(8%)‍ are⁣ “AI Skeptics”⁢ who have not‍ yet implemented AI at the company level.
