The Ljut Brigade: A Beacon of Resilience in Ukraine’s Conflict
The Ljut Brigade, a formidable attack brigade, has been a cornerstone in Ukraine’s defense against Russian aggression. Their infantry has been relentlessly fighting all winter in Torecka, a strategically crucial city in the Bahmouth district. The brigade’s artillery unit plays a pivotal role in supporting the infantry by striking enemy positions, aiming to break through the enemy lines.

While international policy, security conferences, and high-level meetings dominate global headlines, the reality on the front lines in Torecka remains starkly different. The enemy continues to press forward, and Ukraine is steadfast in its efforts to repel them. According to the Commander of the Ljut Brigade, the Commander of the Unit with the nickname “confinse,” the true language of the front is the language of weapons.

The Drone Threat
Drones have become a significant factor in this conflict. Ukrainian soldiers refer to the situation as “The Sky Dirty,” highlighting the constant threat posed by enemy drones. The commander of the Ljut brigade emphasized the challenge drones present, stating, “Drones are a big problem. We try to fight it. It is a problem. Constant improvements, constant technology development. They are constantly trying to disturb us.”
From Police to Soldiers
The Ljut Brigade is predominantly composed of former police officers who have transitioned to military roles. One such soldier, known by the nickname “Bear,” shared his motivation: “I was a local police officer, I helped people. Then I decided I had to help much more. I realized I would be more useful here.”

Another soldier, Lana, who was once a police officer, now serves as a soldier in the artillery unit. Reflecting on the fourth year of the conflict, she said, “I don’t think much about it. We just have to do our job and try to end it all faster.”

Allied Support: A Moral and Practical Boost
The support from allies, both practical and moral, is crucial for the Ljut Brigade. They receive supplies from various countries, including Latvia. One soldier, known by the nickname “artist,” highlighted the importance of this support: “Helps a lot, and since 2014. I know several guys who were taken to treatment. And still helps very much. Morals. When you realize that you are not alone and there is support, even if it is the smallest – it motivates you.”
