Plans to construct the first Trump-branded skyscraper in Australia have been scrapped. The project, which was slated for development on the Gold Coast, was valued at $1.5 billion, according to The Guardian.

The collapse of the deal has led to conflicting accounts from the parties involved regarding why the project was abandoned.

Conflicting Accounts of the Collapse

The developer involved in the project attributed the cancellation to the perception of the Trump brand. According to reports from the BBC and the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, the developer stated that the plans were scrapped because the brand is toxic. The Guardian further reported that the brand was described as toxic to Australians.

The Trump Organization provided a different explanation for the failure of the venture. Reuters reported that the organization has dropped the plan for the Australian skyscraper and attributed the collapse of the deal to its partner.

The proposed tower would have been the first project under the Trump brand in Australia.
