Singapore – Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar ibrahim addressed the Asian Security Summit in Singapore, emphasizing ASEAN’s increasingly vital role in navigating global challenges. He underscored the importance of ASEAN cooperation amid geopolitical divisions and economic instability, advocating for expanded partnerships.
Ibrahim highlighted the recent tripartite summit involving ASEAN, the Cooperation Council for the Arab Gulf States, and China as a significant “triple partnership.” This initiative,he said,extends ASEAN’s strategic reach and fosters collaboration on economic shocks through the “Economic Geography Squad.”
The prime minister stressed that building cooperative relationships is preferable to forming closed blocs, especially given rising global tensions. He also addressed pressing humanitarian concerns,calling the situation in Gaza “a test for our collective concious” and urging “a consistent and tangible position” beyond mere sympathy.
